As a painter, Lassana Sarre describes his pictorial practice as figurative, investing external reality. Inspired by his family environment, colonial and contemporary issues, he paints portraits of his loved ones. His brush undulates and wanders across the canvas. Layers and sub-layers are apparent, testifying to the progress of the idea. His historical, cultural and social identities lead him to push back the limits and reflections of painting. He is interested in its format and power. The scenes are real, but the disproportion captures our attention. The painted figures seem to communicate with the viewer. His work creates a kind of quid pro quo in which only the erasure speaks for itself. Influenced by graffiti, he doesn’t hesitate to mark his gestures, highlighting eloquent elements.
