2023 Grant – « Artists – Open call » College

Born in 1989, French-Armenian artist.

Lives between Yerevan (AM) and Paris.

After studying philosophy and geography, the artist turned to photography and continued her research at ENSP Arles on the definition of identity, which for Topakian is articulated in a relationship between the political, the intimate and the poetic. Her work has been exhibited extensively, including at the Rencontres d’Arles, the Villa Arson and the Biennale de l’Image Possible. Her book Infra- was a finalist for the Prix du livre d’auteur at Rencontres d’Arles 2018. In 2020, she was a finalist for the Virginia Prize and winner of the national commission Regards du Grand Paris 2020 from the CNAP and Ateliers Médicis. In 2021, she won the Fondation des Artistes’ Mécénat Grant and the CNAP Grant for documentary photography, as well as the Blow Up Press prize and the Bourse Transverse. In 2022, she won the Prix Fénéon, and her book Rouge Insecte, a duo with Araks Sahakyan, was published by Editions Sometimes. She is the winner of the “Radioscopie de la France” national commission from the BNF and the French Ministry of Culture. In 2023, her book Dame Gulizar And Other Love Stories is published by Blow Up Press.
